The Jardin botanique de Montréal ranks among the most beautiful institutions of its kind in the world. To help preserve its exceptional collections and the serenity of the site, please follow these guidelines.
Please keep your proof of admission, whether an entry ticket, membership, or another form of access, with you at all times during your visit.

Permitted on the Jardin’s grounds
- Walking, admiring nature, and strolling through the Jardin
- Accredited service dogs are the only animals permitted
- Running is permitted only on the perimeter path, so as not to interfere with circulation or the visitor experience
- Cross-country skiing is permitted in winter on marked trails
Prohibited activities intended to preserve the quality of the visit
Playing ball games, racket sports, or any other sport, except cross-country skiing. Parc Maisonneuve offers appropriate spaces for these activities.
Using two-way radios, particularly for group management, or playing a musical instrument
Using a motorized vehicle or a drone, except for adapted motorized devices such as wheelchairs
Riding a bicycle, skateboard, scooter, or inline skates. Please use Parc Maisonneuve or the Olympic Stadium facilities for these activities.
Because of limited space, drawing, watercolour, and painting are not permitted in the greenhouses unless special authorization has been granted.
Smoking or vaping, including the use of electronic cigarettes, is prohibited throughout the Botanical Garden, except in designated areas. Cannabis use is strictly prohibited at all times on the site.
Bringing imitation weapons onto the Jardin botanique’s grounds is also strictly prohibited, including for live-action role-playing games or cosplay.
Sales and solicitation
Unless special authorization has been granted by the Jardin botanique management, it is strictly forbidden to distribute, offer, display, or sell any services, articles, or merchandise of any kind on the site.
Begging and solicitation are also prohibited.
Prohibited behaviours intended to protect plants and animals
- Picking or harvesting plants, seeds, fruit, or vegetables
- Capturing any animal that finds refuge in the Garden, including insects, turtles, and fish
- Climbing trees
- Feeding animals, injuring them, or damaging their habitat
- Introducing plant or animal species onto the Jardin’s grounds
Food and drink
Except during special events, picnics are permitted only in designated areas. To help preserve the Garden’s landscape, the following are not permitted there:
- Barbecues
- Folding chairs, hammocks, and blankets on the grass
- Any other picnic or sunbathing equipment
Eating and drinking are not permitted in the greenhouses, the auditorium, or the library.
Only alcoholic beverages purchased at the Jardin’s restaurant or food service areas may be consumed in those locations. Alcohol consumption is not permitted anywhere else on the site.
Photography and filming, subject to certain conditions
Authorization is required for film shoots, audio or video recording, and any commercial or professional photography.
The following are not permitted:
Flying a drone over the Jardin botanique
Using a tripod or monopod in the greenhouses or on the outdoor flowerbeds
Filming the Jardin botanique’s staff members
Courtesy and consideration for others
Children under 13 must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
The following are not permitted:
- Being shirtless, barefoot, or in swimwear
- Behaving aggressively
- Disposing of waste anywhere other than in designated bins
- Swimming or soaking one’s feet in fountains or ponds
- Sleeping in public areas or on museum furniture
- Damaging buildings or works of art
Anyone who fails to follow these rules may be removed from the Garden without a refund of admission or parking fees.
