The Insectarium de Montréal is one of the few institutions in the world to present both specimen collections and live insects and other arthropods. To help preserve its collections and maintain harmony within the space, please follow these guidelines.
Permitted at the Insectarium

Prohibited activities intended to preserve the quality of the visit
Courtesy and consideration for others
Permitted at the Insectarium
- Spot well-camouflaged species in the Tête-à-Tête room
- Observe insect behaviour
- Photograph and film the species on view at the Insectarium
- Ask questions to our education team
Prohibited behaviours intended to protect insects and other arthropods
- Touching insects and other arthropods roaming freely in the Great Vivarium
- Picking plants or capturing species from our living collections, such as a butterfly
Prohibited activities intended to preserve the quality of the visit
- Using two-way radios (walkie-talkies), particularly for group management
- Filming staff members
Courtesy and consideration for others
Children under 13 must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
The following are not permitted:
- Being shirtless
- Shouting or running in the museum
- Sleeping on urban furniture
- Disposing of waste anywhere other than in the designated bins
Any unpleasant, aggressive, or uncivil behaviour that affects safety or the visitor experience may result in expulsion from the Insectarium.
