Moving from the countryside to the big city, I missed being able to walk outside and snack on some homegrown fruits and vegetables from the family garden.
This year, after enough longing for home, I finally decided to start my own edible balcony garden. I wanted to be able to eat fresh food, as well as experiment with making jam preserves and pickles so that I could still enjoy my garden during the upcoming cold months. My edible plants include tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, strawberries, blueberries, hibiscus, cat grass, nasturtium, dill, hot peppers and at the start of the season, there were some sweet peas and radishes.
My cat, as well as other stray cats, also enjoy stalking insects underneath the leaves and sleeping in the shade provided by the plants.
It has not been easy, but it has been well worth it, and I will keep my garden going for many years to come.
